Even though this magnificient EP by a seasoned duo is released in the heart of winter, I couldn’t be feeling more like summer when this track is on. Of course, checking out the video helps with getting into that particular feeling!

And here it is for you as well: Helsinki 78-82 – Cruising (direct link)

While I’m on the subject, I might as well note that Helsinki 78-82 just put out their first mixtape! Go get it.

Please show your support by getting the 12″ EP from your local record store (digital version available here), and keep following!

After listening to that Muuri track on the Slugabed set, I was sent on a mission in order to find anything and everything about the creators of the track.  It turns out that the track is created by Ponytail & Tiiu (half of Clouds). They haven’t released anything yet, but Clouds has! It has Tiiu’s lovely, Finnish voice (although she is singing in English) combined with a beautiful soundscape produced by Ponytail and the other guy. Check it out!

Sharkslayer

Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, and firmly connected to both Top Billin’ and New Judas crews, Sharkslayer is currently one of the most stylish duos pushing intense techno bangers out.

Personally I’m all for the dancehall / cumbia / soca influences mixed with the hectic modern club techno sound. Also, you should definitely go check Sharkslayer out live, if and when they come by your hometown! A filled-to-the-brim club with a big soundsystem is where these dudes really put it to work.

Here’s a few promo-MP3s we got our hands on:

Rico Tubbs – Boom Riddim (Sharkslayer remix) (direct link / 320)

zapp

I feel like every time I hear a song that samples Zapp, I immediately have the need to rediscover their discography.  I start getting sad about Roger and I listen to Zapp and Roger for about 2 straight weeks, shedding a tear with every talkboxed syllable. This post is a tribute to my main brotha, Roger Troutman.

I’ve been a Slugabed fan ever since I heard the mix that he put together for our friends over at Electronic Explorations (I highly recommend that you subscribe to their podcast if you don’t already).  I think the song that drops about 9 minutes into the mix is what won me over, but the entire thing is MASSIVE.

Anyways, some randoms for y’alls listening pleasure.  After a bit of a hiatus, I have a plethora of new stuff to post over the next few days.

Hudson+Mohawke+hud+mo

You know, I was actually hoping to post about this guy a few weeks ago but I ended up reformatting my computer, going on vacation, losing the FTP info, and having pretty much every other excuse in the book come up.

I was driving across country a few weeks back and was looking for some new stuff to blast during my drive (which was quite long) when I came across Hudson Mohawke, this goofy Scottish kid that makes goofy music.

I don’t even know where to begin in describing his music.  It has that 8-bit feel, with dubstep elements (like Rustie), hip-hop, and I don’t even know what else.  You just need to listen to it!

Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t understand any of the hype surrounding Silkie with his previous releases.  Most of them sounded fairly redundant, and gave me the same feeling that I get with Zomby (absolutely nothing).  However, he recently released this STELLAR LP and my opinion of him immediately changed.  Download the hell out of this!

fred-falke

There seems to be this ongoing trend with many artists.  They remain off the radar and every so often will crank out an incredibly great track. However, as soon as they start cranking out tracks at a faster pace, the quality tends to decrease.  This is not the case with Fred Falke, though.

2009 has been quite a year for Mr. Falke.  It seems that everytime we turn around, the man and his bass guitar has released yet another remix.  So far, the quality has yet to be compromised.  That is true of this latest track, a fantastic remix of “Animal” by Sweden’s Miike Snow.  Check it out!

A lot of people are saying that if Burial and 2562 had a child, the product of their loins would be Clubroot.  While that may be true, I think that Clubroot picks up the slack where both Burial and 2562 left off.

I was extremely critical of Burial’s debut album, and it didn’t live up to the hype (sans a few tracks). Clubroot is what Burial’s album SHOULD have been.

Clubroot’s ability to paint an audible landscape is impeccable.  The details crafted into every single track are created with the utmost care, and never sounding too cluttered.  Each song transcends us through an ethereal journey, combining atmospheric soundscapes with that grimey dubstep sound we know and love.

This debut LP is absolutely astounding, and I look forward to their future efforts.

jazzsteppa

This is hot like fiya right here.  To be honest, when I first heard the “jazz/dubstep fusion” bit, I was a tad weary… I didn’t know what I was getting myself into.  After listening to this self released album, I was sold on Jazzsteppa’s mastery of the genre (whatever it may be).  They combine the heavy, face melting bass sounds of dubstep with relaxing reggae elements and live brass!  Check it out.
